Transforming Programme WP12 - D – New prodution technologies and use of advanced materials

The BIOEQUIP project focuses on the development of industrial solutions oriented towards the extraction of bioactives and the manufacture of raw materials (biocomposites) from biomass covering the entire value chain for the development and implementation of new productive industrial units, i.e. the factories of the future for the production of biomaterials.

Although the extraction of bioactives such as nanocellulose and curcumin is documented at laboratory level, many of the approaches considered are not suitable for mass production, so there are serious restrictions on the dissemination and application of these biomaterials in sustainable and innovative products. On the other hand, industrial technologies for the production of biopolymers and biocomposites require the implementation of physical and digital monitoring and control systems in order to guarantee the quality and efficiency of the materials developed.

It is with this integrated approach and total focus on energy efficiency and sustainability in the treatment of materials and production waste that BIOEQUIP will provide the first national pilot line for the manufacture of bioactives (nanocellulose, curcumin and ozonated oils) and biocomposites from them (biopolymers reinforced with bioactives and natural fibers), which will serve a wide range of strategic national sectors (automotive, packaging, electronics, etc.), providing a transformation of value chains from an importing international context to an exporting regional context."
